Never goddamn forget

It’s been a year since W let New Orleans drown while he was on vacation with the odd photo op tossed in. While people in New Orleans were drowning he did nothing but stuff cake into his face and fool around with a guitar given him by some suck up country singer. New Orleans drowned and he did nothing.

Never for get that. Ever. He did nothing.

This is man who has decided that he doesn’t have to follow the law with regard to wiretaps or other searches because the need of the nation is so much and as president he has the inherent power to do so. But with thousands of lives at stake he did nothing. His sycophants later said he was bound by the law which is stone bullshit. He doesn’t give a damn about the law. He did nothing. Neither did Cheney, neither did Rice. Hell not a one of them even figured it was worth making any change of plans.

He let it drown. He didn’t care. He couldn’t even begin to pretend to care until little Carl came in with the news that people thought it was horrible what was going in New Orleans and people were blaming him. The first thing they did was blame other people the mayor of New Orleans and the Gov of Louisiana. That showed fine moral character but it is what they always do. Never mind fixing anything blame someone else. Never forget that either.

Later, much later he gave a series of speeches – in the first one he waxed nostalgic about getting smashed in New Orleans and said the infamous “Brownie you’re doing a heck of a job” to the overmatched head of FEMA (not that Brownie wasn’t a fault. E-mails from the time show an obsession with good places to eat dinner – Brownie if there was ever a time to be at your damn desk eating a MRE and having a cup of coffee, now was the time. And the ice ending up Boston didn’t help much either) this jolliness was jarring note when compared to the scenes of flooding and people pulling corpses out of buildings and the mud. It painted the portrait of an out of touch narcissist with shit for brains. Accurate but it was what they had been trying to hide for so long.

Then after the damage was done and the damage they cared about (his ratings) was getting worse. He made a speech and promised the world to LA, he hugged poor people; he hugged anybody he could get near. Then he left. And forgot out it until this week. When Carl told him he had to do something else again. So he did photo ops, the little ape is very good a photo ops.

And most of the promised money has not show up, that which did has been sucked up by well connected private corporations who use a pyramid of sub contractors to steal the money that would other wise go to re-construction of New Orleans. 60% of the city is with out power, hospitals have not reopened, wreckage is still not cleared away and the new work is shoddy and cheap and will be destroyed in the next storm.

They will lie about what they have done. A just universe would turn their tongues to sand lest they lie more.

These are bastards running our country.

8/17/06 – DISASTER



Now that it looks like world war iv ™ will not start just yet what with Hezbollah and the IDF not shooting at each other (and you have to wonder how disappointed the rapture folks are with that – they were expecting Jesus to take them up any second for the last few weeks.) people will remember that there is another war, the one in Iraq that is an unqualified disaster. But it’s still not a civil war.

The main opinion out there seems to be that Israel badly underestimated Hezbollah and fought the war in the worst possible way. Hezbollah meantime has been strengthen politically and will no doubt make up the losses in material and manpower over time. Lebanon is the real loser here, hundreds killed, cities bombed, thousands driven from their homes – it’s god awful. And the intent of the bombing. Why god knows – the IDF ain’t covering themselves with glory here. Or even success. Not that Hezbollah are much better, they weren’t able kill as many civilians because their primary weapon – a rocket based on a soviet design from World War 2 was horribly inaccurate, if they had the weapons to do to Israel what Israel did to Lebanon they would have. Still I

In the time W was described as being unhappy or frustrated with the Iraqi people because they are not showing the American (i.e. his immature little ass) the proper love. This is the abusive partner “after all I’ve done for you” moment before they decide to really hurt you. The words Petulant jerk also come to mind.

For Iraq, He has no plan other than to not deal with this and hope that when the democratic party ends up back in power in 08 they are so busy trying to fix all the messes he left that behind that they won’t start the long process of tossing him and the rest of the gangsters in this mess they call an administration into club fed for a long stay.

I’m tempted to maybe look up the Hal Lindsay site to see what’s up with them since the rapture has been put off for a bit but since the human mind can only look at madness for so long. And those folks are batshit crazy. Hal’s got some guy doing cartoons that are well, only the Click tracks are utterly degranged. He has one, one of many, of the rapture, in the center is Jesus hugging someone as they enter heaven. It’s the expression on the prince of peace that gives me pause. The expression is more like he’s trying to either squeeze the man to death, or he is having the most painful bowel movement in history or he’s as crazy as a shithouse rat. None of these expressions are ones you link with the prince of peace. But that’s what you get.

Meantime today a federal judge has ruled that W’s little warrant less wire tapping project is unconstitutional and illegal should cease at once. This is bound to get bounced up to the Supreme Court. It won’t be fun but it will be interesting. I’d feel better if there were fewer autocrats on the bench but who knows.

On the Scarborough show a couple a days ago he ran with the story “Is Bush an Idiot?” The only proper answer to this is “duh”.

And the ever reliable wanker the holy joe Lieberman has a 51-41 or some such lead over Lamont in the CT Senate race with the official GOP candidate getting 5% in the polls. Not surprisingly most of Joe’s support is coming from republicans, so much so that W won’t say he endorses the GOP candidate and the RNC is officially not endorsing him, the only other time that happened was when David Duke got the GOP nod for a house seat, and that’s only cause David never learned to say “I was joking” right after he made a racist comment. Joe meantime continues to assault Lamont’s patriotism and has come oh so close to playing the race card by citing Sharpton’s endorsement of Lamont (an endorsement he tried to get before the primary). Sharpton may be an ambulance chaser but for Joe to start up standard GOP “beware teh black ™ “ racist cant (lets call it what it is children denial hurts all of use) is a new low, even for him.

Panic Attack

Just saw quick clip on Crooks & Liars that made my head want to explode. Sean Hannity was going off about how the Democratic Party is ignoring that the islamofacists want to kill us. When the guest made a couple of comments about the real world, Hannity started jabbering about weak and helpless and how they didn’t get it that they were coming. I swear to god I thought he was going to hide under the desk. Had I been there I would have said something like “Sean Sean, breathe man, slowly, first in through the nose and hold it for ten seconds and let it out slowly. You’re having a panic attack.”

A mean person would have let him run on; I swear to god he was going to start crying.

I don’t know why right wingers think they are so tough when the fact that there are bad people out there and they want to kill Americans makes them wet their damn shorts. I ever go on Sean Hannity I am going to bring along a baby’s blinky and a blue blanket for him, Jesus what a putz. Yes there are elements in Muslim work that are against us, that are willing to kill for political purposes but this is not fucking world war iv ™ this is not some epic clash. Our future as a nation is not, I repeat, and repeat again, not at stake, unless we, in our panic give away our birthright. As FDR said we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Hannity was almost calling for his mommy.

And there was some blonde bimbo on with him, cause I guess he didn’t want to have to handle combes by himself anymore, who piped up with weird non-sequator comments like Bush beat Lieberman and now he’s lost again and Cindy Sheehan’s hanging out with anti-Semites. (Personally I’m sick to death of people who suggest that Israel is reacting with counter productive violence against targets that have little if anything to do with Hezbollah an anti-Semite. Mel Gibson is an example of an anti-Semite – side note within a side note. Being drunk does not give you opinions on things you never though about before, being drunk puts to sleep that part your brain that says “I don’t think that would be the best thing to say, or do” the superego as it where. Which is why, when I’m drunk I talk about how jealous I am of guys who have hot girlfriends while I am entering my third year of unwanted celibacy. I do not however blame that upon the Jews). To which had I been colmes and colmes not been the nurtured poodle that he is I would as suggested that either she should quit sniffing glue or maybe she needs to put down the crack pipe. But she is a stepford person and she wouldn’t get it. She’s paid to be an idiot, like colmes is paid to be an idiot.

The whole term islamo-facist doesn’t even make any fucking sense – it implies some sort of massive movement lead by someone. They won’t say since the obvious boogeyman, Osama Ben Laden isn’t someone they like to bring up since he is either still on the loose or has died peacefully in bed (my guess alas) so the leader of the shadowy movement isn’t named. But what it is, other than it hates us my precious, isn’t very well defined. I’m not expert on the middle east or Muslim politics but lumping the Iran, Sunni Al Qaeda, Palestinian Hammas, the Shiite Hezbollah, along with what’s left of the secular Ba’ah Party doesn’t make any bloody sense – they are all out for different things, they all don’t care much for America, nor have they reason to. But this is not one group, nor are any of them worshipers of the state as fascists were prone to be. And they have expressed little or no interest in invading these shores (which is, of all the absurd fantastic, the brown people are coming to get us fantasies the most absurd)

This whole threat inflation is more about retaining domestic power than worrying about terrorists who want to strangle us in our beds. The thing scares hannity the most is not Arabs slipping over the wall and slitting his throat but a democratic party controled congress that would investigate things like the sweetheart no bid army contracts and the like and end up putting in jail people who have been treating tax payer money like a private feed bag, that scares them, and since he is owned by them, it scares the bejesus out of him.

You know I don’t think I have ever in all my days seen a political campaign as bad, as inept as utterly ineffective as Joseph Lieberman’s primary campaign has been (and I remember McGovern ).

His latest misstep is that he’s announced now that he was always against the way W has conducted the Iraq war (but not quibbling with the basic idea it seems). This comes as a shock to anyone paying attention – or a memory. Lieberman, prior to today, has had nothing but scorn for anyone who dared criticize the great adventure.

I have no idea what the hell he thinks, at this late date, 5 days before the primary, this move is going to accomplish. It’s going to completely destroy the only thing he has left, the perception that he is a man of principle. That’s not really true but that’s the perception or the standard line. Now he looks like a complete wanker, someone who is only in it for himself and will say and or do anything to get re-elected. Smooth Joe, way to go – you’ve revealed to the world that you are at heart a contemptible sanctimonious humbug – which we knew but casual observers tended to miss focusing on your very public piety and desire to be viewed as a nice person by the GOP/DC beltway culture.

And I wonder how the hell is this going to play with the GOP and W? News reports yesterday had stories of the college republicans sending members to CT to work for Liebermann. (Another tin ear misstep by Holy Joe – what the hell is the GOP in any capacity doing involved in a Democratic Party primary?). I’m not sure that will survive the sudden turn by Joe on the war. W doesn’t like it when his war gets dissed and the punishment can be swift. One wonders just what Rush, Hannity and the boys and girls who have been telling Liebermann what a great guy he is are going to continue to do so. If not Joe will have managed alienate both the Democratic Party members and the GOP.

What a putz.

8/2/06 – MADDNESS AND EVIL

I sit in a darkened office (attempt to reduce the use of electricity here in NYC) and can't shake the feeling that we are slipping into madness. The Israelis are, after saying they wouldn’t bomb for 72 hours (or maybe not as much, the details are sketchy) are back to bombing and Hezbollah has responded by firing (by report) 190 rockets. Meantime the IDF is either slicing or slogging its way through southern Lebanon (again details are sketchy) with no real end in sight. What seems to be happening is that the IDF and the government are trying to come up with at least something that looks like a win before they stop.

The monkey in the White House is apparently okay with all this death – which is not that big a surprise really, he’s fond of killing by proxy and it keeps people’s attention from the chaos in Iraq. After the failure of Ms. Rice we seem to have decided to just let the killing go on until it peters out.

W has spoken of this as a chance for a beginning of something new. This is gibberish. This is death and chaos and won’t solve anything.

Israel has gone mad I think. Somehow they have decided (and I’ve seen this more than once) that if they bomb enough, Lebanon will turn on Hezbollah and blame them for the attacks. This boggles the mind. Basic human nature is going to blame the people dropping the bombs for the bombing. Not that Hezbollah are angels – the ratio of civilian deaths in Israel and Lebanon is so lopsided due to Hezbollah’s less destructive weapons, not from the lack of trying.

I’ve see some arguments to the effect that if Canada attacked us we would be doing pretty much the same thing Israel is doing – bombing included. We’re not the best example of restraint given our tendency to carpet bomb when we get irked but even so the point’s not relevant. Israel is bombing things like Lebanon army units and last time I looked Hezbollah was not running the Beirut airport. The way Israel is acting makes about as much sense as our invading Iraq because of 9/11. And I suspect will turn out just as badly for all concerned.

And the most sickening thing to come out of the last few days is the series of essays by bloodless evil people who suggest that we are having problems in Iraq because we are too soft, that we should just kill all the Sunni men and have done with it. That we need to be tougher. That we should get used to civilian deaths. It’s for a good cause; we did worse in World War 2. Etc. etc.

So we’ve gone from liberating the Iraqi people to shooting them. To quote Conrad “Exterminate the Brutes!” is the Right Wing’s new battle cry.

Another Conrad Quote: “the horror, the horror.”

And we continue to slouch our way to disaster.
